Convert your HEIC photo to PNG

Convert HEIC to PNG when a tool or upload process specifically needs PNG. You may be preparing a phone photograph for an editing application, document, app or upload process that accepts PNG but does not accept the original HEIC.

The converter creates a PNG copy of the photo. PNG is a format choice for the next step, not a way to recreate detail missing from the original.

Keep your HEIC file in your photo library. A PNG export can be convenient to work with while the source remains available for other versions.

Convert HEIC to PNG in three steps

  1. Choose the HEIC photos you need in PNG format.
  2. Process the selected files with PNG as the output.
  3. Review the still-image results and download your PNG copies.

The HEIC to PNG converter works in your browser without an account. Leave the tab open while it processes the files. Larger photographs and batches can take longer depending on your device.

You can add up to 30 images, with 160 MB of combined input data. Each file must be within 40 MB and 24 megapixels. A photo that looks compact on disk can still exceed the pixel limit, so check dimensions as well as file size.

PNG output can be much larger

An HEIC photo can hold a detailed picture in a relatively compact file. The PNG copy stores the same visible photo differently, and a photographic PNG may therefore be substantially larger.

The increased file size does not mean the photo has gained new detail. It means the same visible picture is being stored differently. Use PNG when the destination needs it or when it fits your editing task.

If you mainly need an easy-to-share photograph and the recipient accepts JPG, JPG output may be a more practical route. You can choose JPG quality to balance size and visible detail.

A PNG photo does not automatically have a transparent background

PNG supports transparency, but an ordinary HEIC photograph includes the whole scene. Convert HEIC to PNG and the wall, sky or tabletop behind the subject remains part of the result.

To isolate a person or object, use background removal after selecting a suitable photo. That is a separate operation, with its own result to inspect around hair, fine edges and overlapping objects.

If your goal is simply to satisfy a PNG upload requirement, you do not need background removal. Change only what the destination asks for.

Keep the full phone original

This converter is for a still PNG output. It does not promise to preserve motion, alternate frames, depth information, the original editing history or every item of metadata in a phone photo.

Do not use a PNG conversion as your only backup of a photo with special features you want to retain. Keep the source in your library, then make individual exports for editing, sharing or printing.

Check color, brightness, orientation and framing in the application that will receive the PNG. The success of a file conversion and the suitability of its appearance are two separate things to confirm.

Prepare the photo before your next edit

Start from the original HEIC rather than a screenshot of its preview. A screenshot may contain fewer pixels and can already include scaling or interface content.

If the photo is sideways, rotate the converted image before inserting it into a document. If there is unnecessary surrounding space, crop a copy while leaving enough detail around the subject.

Avoid enlarging a small photo just because the destination accepts PNG. Larger dimensions do not bring back fine texture or make unclear text readable. A higher-resolution source is the better starting point when available.

For an upload with a size limit, check the PNG's final size. Resizing may be more useful than preserving camera dimensions that the final layout will never display.

HEIC to PNG questions

Does PNG conversion improve photo quality?

No. It gives you a PNG copy of the HEIC photo. It cannot recreate detail absent from the source or guarantee that every application displays it identically.

Is PNG the best format for sharing phone photos?

Only when it fits the destination. If no transparency is needed and JPG is accepted, a JPG copy may be easier to keep small. Choose based on the receiving app's requirements.

Can I convert several HEIC files together?

Yes, within the batch limits. Review a few different photographs, especially if they came from different devices or export methods.

Will the PNG keep Live Photo motion?

No. The result is a still image. Preserve your original phone photo and its associated content if you need the motion.

Can I remove the background during conversion?

Format conversion does not remove the scene. Use the background remover when a transparent cutout is your intended result.

What should I do if a file will not open?

Check the image limits and try the original file rather than an incomplete download. If other HEIC files work, the affected file may use an unsupported variation or be damaged.
